Welcome to Colombia!

Welcome to Colombia! The fotos below are in Cartagena and Getsamani (just outside the walled city of Cartagena Vieja). Cartagena is a gorgeous city..incredibly preserved. The people are very friendly and they love a good chat. The food is excellent, specifically the street food. Empanadas filled with spinich, cheese and chicken, skewers of beef and potatoes (went back twice for those!), shrimp cocktail (found at an incredible 2:30 am!), fresh fruit and juice drinks made from fruits I've never even heard of-but the taste will knock your socks off!, and even street pizza complete with pizza oven outside! I LOVE STREET FOOD!!!This is smoked fish that these guys walked around the streets shouting out that they have for sale. I did not try this.Nor did I try any of these sweets pictured here. Thought I might lose a tooth!Middle School boys doing what middle schoolers do. Round the world...they don't change! What a treat! A proper sit-down meal inside a restaurant. :-) Great times, great guys...from left, Yves, me, Matt, Daniel and Ravi. These pics are from the Chiva party bus trip we took one night out and about in Cartagena. The city is really beautiful at night!Me, Jenn, Patrick and Tony (brothers), and Matt again in the back.So friendly, these Colombians!Yes...we all had to stand up on our benches and shake our asses. The Cartagena party crew with addtions of birthday boy James (behind Jenn), Jonny and then Hugo. The three in yellow are typical Colombian prostitutes you'll find hanging out at seems like every bar and club. These are the best skewers!!!This was the crowd that developed after we were the first ones there.Late Night Shrimp Cocktail. Yummy. He also had oysters and sea snails.Street Pizza.Cartagena culture. In and around Cartagena Vieja. Foot massage on the beach anyone?Surprising toilet room in Havana restaurant just down the block from our hostal. At the fort in Cartagena. Cartagena with Cartagena Vieja way in the back. Found the "Bano Canino" (dog bathroom) near the marina. Funny sign. :-)Fort again from a distance. Casa Viena hostal in Getsamani.

SLOTH VIDEO!!!!

Scroll down for more photos of the sloth!!
VOLCAN-cito!
About 49 km north of Cartagena, there is a small mud volcano in which you can take a leisurely 20 minute mud bath complete with a guy who will massage you in the mud. What an experience!!

The mud is so thick, they have to pull you through it!

Here comes the massage!

Wanna hug?
Dirty friends Matt and Jenn.
The ladies wash you off in the laguna just behind us. No time to be modest; they strip your bikini off in one quick motion-WHOOSH!
Welcome to Cartagena!!!
My first day in Cartagena, Colombia was BEYOND AMAZING!!! Check out the wildlife I found just after breakfast in the park two blocks from my hostel, Casa Viena. HUGE iguanas, tiny monkeys and two different sloths. We looked and looked for sloths in Costa Rica...saw one at night, was very tough to see...little did I know, all I needed to do was come to Cartagena and could be within a foot of one!!! Completely surreal!

The photo above was taken a few nights into my stay in Cartagena. A bunch of us went on a party bus tour of the city and at one of the stops, a guy was totting this sloth around, for tips of course...I couldn't resist!!!

Just passing by!
UNBELIEVABLE!!!!

Colombians enjoying the wildlife as well.
Click on the photo above to see it larger. It looks as though he's looking down through his legs, but his head is actually turned almost 180ยบ around!!
